SOME INSURED VETERANS MAY QUALIFY FOR REFUND

May 3, 2003 – Veterans insured by the Hartford Life Insurance Co. or the USAA Life Insurance Co. may be eligible for a refund of Veterans Administration co-payments, Delegate Donna M. Christensen said in a release.
Part of a recent $11.1 million settlement by the Department of Veterans Affairs and a coalition of insurance industry groups concerns payments for care provided by the VA to insured veterans with Medicare or Tricare supplemental coverage from Jan. 1, 1995, through Dec. 31, 2001, the release said
Veterans who were insured by the companies and who paid VA co-payments for VA medical care received during those seven years "may ask the VA for a refund of their co-payments on a first-come first-serve basis," the release stated. Veterans eligible for refunds "will then be notified by mail after records on file are cross checked," it said.
Claims application forms may be downloaded from the Veterans Administration Web site. They also may obtained by calling (866) 258-2772. Claims must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2004.
