V.I. Energy Office Grants Available

Oct. 9, 2004 – The fall cycle of the Virgin Islands Energy Office's Discretionary Grant Program is open, according to a release from Dean C. Plaskett, commissioner, Planning and Natural Resources department.
DPNR encourages and aims to expand energy efficient/renewable energy projects through competitive grant-seeking proposals. The program seeks to fund projects that benefit the entire community, or a significant percent of the population. The funds are awarded to selected proposals that include a cost-share (in-kind or cash) of at least 20 percent, Plaskett said.
Eligible to apply are not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, schools and institutions.
Eligible projects include research and education, building retrofits and energy efficient/solar outdoor lighting.
Grant amounts for discretionary grants are up to $20,000. Mini-grants, for schools, teachers, youth organizations and parent/teacher associations, are up to $1,500.
Deadline for application is Nov. 30.
