Film About Transfer Day to Air Monday on TV2

June 19, 2005 — "Transfer Day Perspectives" is a film that examines the ongoing struggle of Virgin Islanders to attain full U.S. citizenship. Produced by the V.I. Humanities Council, the film features interviews with eyewitnesses of 1917's Transfer Day and commentary by legal and political scholars about the present and future options for full citizenship.
The film will be aired on TV2 on Monday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 26 at 7 p.m.
The presentation is part of the council’s We the People project, entitled "U.S. Virgin Islanders: A People’s Quest for Self- Governance," and is made possible through funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the V.I. Legislature, the West Indian Co., Michael Banzhaf Studio and Fintrac Inc.
In its press release, the council says that it wanted to produce a media project that could be televised and reach an audience not normally in attendance at its other council-conducted activities, such as panel discussions, lectures, etc.
The council also says the film will be made available to teachers who want to use it as a resource in their social science classes.
