Police Arrest Man for DUI Following Early Morning Collision on Midland Road

A 65-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence early Saturday morning on St. Croix after police determined he was at fault in a two-vehicle collision on Midland Road, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

According to a VIPD police report issued Monday, officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:27 a.m. Saturday, following a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle accident near the Mon Bijou stoplight. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles involved in the crash and identified John Vidale as the at-fault driver.

Vidale was administered three Standardized Field Sobriety Tests on-site โ€” the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand โ€” all of which he failed, the police report stated.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Ancilmo Marshall Command Police Station, where he submitted to a chemical breath test. His blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit. Vidale was then transported to the Police Operations Administrative Building, where he was booked and processed, the report stated.

He was charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicating liquor and negligent driving causing an auto collision. Vidale surrendered his Virgin Islands driverโ€™s license in lieu of bail, it said.
