Police Arrest Alleged Peeper With Long History

A St. Croix man is under arrest after being caught by a woman’s doorbell camera allegedly performing a solo sex act, the V.I. Police Department reported Monday.

On Sept. 13, Edward “Fast Eddie” James, 58, allegedly entered the woman’s screened-in porch and attempted to look through her door’s peephole. The woman was sitting on her couch when she received an alert on her phone that someone was at her unlocked door. She told police she froze in fear as James exposed and briefly fondled his genitals, according to court records. Gathering herself, she phoned a family member who advised her to dial 911. James slowly walked away as she called.

The woman spoke to a neighbor who said James had done the same thing at her home, according to court records.

James, denying any knowledge of the alleged incidents, was arrested Oct. 4 for burglary and indecent conduct. He was held on $50,000 bail.

Although it is a common name, a man named Edward James has been arrested more than a dozen times on St. Croix since 1998, according to incomplete court records online. The arrests include four alleged burglaries, two allegations of trespassing, two charges of grand larceny, three accusations of possessing stolen property, and aggravated assault and battery. James was convicted in a 2009 third-degree burglary. All the other arrests were either dismissed or not prosecuted, according to court records.
