The Virgin Islands Chili Cook Off is returning to St. Thomas on Aug. 4 at Brewers Bay after a five-year hiatus. Reviving a cherished tradition spanning 30 years, the 2024 cook off will be the first of its kind since 2019. Known for drawing crowds, this year’s event is expected to attract a significant number of attendees, with approximately 30 different booths competing.

Heath George, event coordinator, expressed his excitement about the return, stating, “We’re eager to see what our talented contestants will serve up this year and we’d like to encourage everyone to come out and have a good time with friends and family!”

The event will kick off at noon and run until 5 p.m., featuring a fun lineup of activities. Contestants will vie for top honors in several categories, including Best Traditional Chili, Best Vegetarian Chili, and the People’s Choice Award.

“We’ll be offering lots of giveaways throughout the day to attendees, and participating booths will receive a free case of beer and water,” noted George. This year also introduces a new salsa and ‘Bring Your Best’ appetizer competition, offering local restaurants a chance to showcase their best culinary creations.

In addition to the various contests, the cook-off will feature live music from local bands, local vendors, and family-friendly activities. “We have a great entertainment line-up of performers, including DJ Champion, DJ Niko, Lourdes, and the Switch, Breakaway Band, and When Band,” shared George.

Proceeds from the event will benefit St. Thomas Rescue. Previous cook offs have raised significant funds for critical needs, including educational programs, health services, and environmental initiatives across the territory.
