YAG Foundation to Host Cancer Support Group With Author Dr. Gemaine Owen MD

Looking for hope and connection after a cancer diagnosis or treatment? Join the Yvonne Ashley Galiber Breast Cancer Foundation Inc. (YAGF) for a cancer support group gathering from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, July 27, at The “New” Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in St. Croix’s Sunny Isle Shopping Center. The featured speaker will be Dr. Gemaine D. Owen MD, author of the empowering new book “DOC WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN MY SHOES?: How to Circumnavigate a Cancer Diagnosis.”

This free event is open to all cancer survivors, caregivers and healthcare providers.

According to Yvonne Ashley Galiber, founder of the YAG Foundation, its support group gatherings are always dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for cancer survivors and caregivers.

“It’s a place where individuals can share their experiences, gain valuable insights, and receive emotional support; whether you are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment or in remission, our group is here to support you at every stage of your survivor journey,” Galiber said.

Dr. Owen will be the guest speaker. In her deeply insightful and personal book, Owen shares her own experiences with cancer care as both a patient and a primary care physician and gives advice on how to foster self-advocacy when facing a diagnosis. Owen’s compassionate approach and extensive experience make her an invaluable resource for the community.

“Resuming support groups has been a top priority for the YAG Foundation because they foster hope and resilience. It will be an afternoon of learning, sharing and connecting,” said Galiber.

Light refreshments will be served, and several lucky attendees will receive a free copy of Owen’s book.
