Maria Christina Gonzalez-Griffin Dies

Maria Christina Gonzalez-Griffin

Maria Christina Gonzalez-Griffin, affectionately known as “Mama Mary,” died at age 83 on June 10.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Mercedes and Alfredo Gonzalez; husbands: Douglas Wade and Paul Griffin Sr.; siblings: Pedro Gonzalez and Alicia Fellner, and first grandson, Jorge Rivera.

She is survived by her children: Rosemarie “Rosie” Wade-Rivera, Luz “Mootsie” Wade, Paul Griffin Jr. and Noella Griffin; adopted children: Evanton Wade, Devery Phipps and Rudolph Maduro; siblings: Isobel “Toty” Concepcion and Luz “Aunty Lou” Edney; son-in-law, Justo Rivera; and grandson-in-law, Raynard Malone.

She is also survived by grandchildren: Gabriel “Bebo” Rivera, Kristina Rivera, Mahogany Phillip-Malone, Desiree and Cierra Griffin; great-grandchildren: Arianna and Mya Rivera, Noah and Eliza Wiley, and Robyn Malone; special godchild, Alicia “Marilyn” Woodley-Jackson; the Gonzalez, Camacho, Carrillo, Dottin, Vasquez and Martinez families; and very special friends: Carol Cerge, Phyllis Benjamin, Audrey Callwood, Angelita Jennings, Norma Dopson, Dr. Alfred Heat and Joseph Jacob.

The viewing will be held at Turnbull’s Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, July 18.  Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m., Friday, July 19, at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral. Interment will follow at East End Cemetery, Smith Bay.
