Government House Evacuated Due to Smoke Conditions

After a report of a smoke condition at Government House on Friday, the staff was evacuated, officials announced.

The Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to investigate the source of the smoke. The Government House Executive Security Unit concluded that there was no fire, and all staff members were reported safe and accounted for, according to the press release.

Due to the conditions, the Government House offices were closed until the cause of the smoke was identified. Lt. Governor Tregenza A. Roach announced the temporary closure of the Recorder of Deeds Division at Government House Christiansted, the press release stated.

The Source attempted to contact representatives at Government House on Friday to inquire about any new developments regarding the cause of the smoke but had not received a response by press time.
