The second annual Virgin Islands Pate Festival was a finger-licking good time on Saturday at the Agricultural Fairgrounds on St. Croix.

“Pate” is a crispy fried dough filled with a choice of meat. It is stuffed, folded and crimped shut, and then deliciously fried or baked. To eat the pate, you simply need your hands and a napkin to catch all the delicious flavor once it comes gushing out.

Patrons had a variety of options including saltfish, beef, conch, oxtail, veggie, and chicken from different vendors showcasing their culinary skills. For the more adventurous eaters, there were choices like oxtail, ham and eggs, tofu, and other creative options.

“We have been baking in the community, so we decided to have the community enticed with what we are serving,” Lorna, owner of L&C Delights said.

Other vendors, such as 340 Degrees Delights, offered a variety of treats including mango cheesecake, chocolate cake, butter cookies, and refreshing juices. Other vendors also provided different types of foods for those looking for more than pate.
