Agnes Peters Dies at 70

Agnes Peters, of Frederiksted, St. Croix, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the age of 70. Agnes was born on Saturday, May 8, 1954, in Laborie, St. Lucia. She was affectionately known by her family as “Vitalien.”

Agnes was an avid learner. Beginning her educational journey at the LA-Resource primary school in Grand Riviere, St. Lucia. Agnes later attended the Ave Maria Girls Primary School and the Girls Vocational School for her secondary education in St. Lucia. She is also a graduate of continuing education from St. Croix Central High School. Agnes continued her love of learning through reading and writing throughout the years. She believed in continuing education and earned several certificates over the years, including a Certificate of Achievement in Child Supervision from the Cooperative Extension Service of the University of the Virgin Islands.

Agnes was a loving and devoted spouse to her husband of 49 years, William “John” Peters. The two started out as pen pals and later started a family, where Agnes would dedicate most of her time as a full time domestic engineer to their home and four daughters, Nubia, Sylvia, Zina, and Ashley in St. Croix.

She was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and devoted to her faith and giving back to her community. Agnes enjoyed traveling, reading, road trips, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love, strong faith, and kindness.

Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, Zina Jean Laurencin and Emmanuel Tobierre; her sisters, Magdalena Laurencin and Marianna Euphita Paul Severin; her brothers, Lawrence Laurencin, Fegnatius “Bottie” Laurencin, Gillet Laurencin, and McVain Laurencin.

Agnes is survived by her immediate family: her husband, William “John” Peters; her daughters, Ms. Nubia Peters, Mrs. Sylvia Daniel, Dr. Zina Peters, and Mrs. Ashley Jones; her brothers, Solomon Laurencin, Joe Jean, Gabriel Laurencin, Eustace Laurencin, Joseph Tobierre, King Tobierre, Belfor Tobierre; her brothers-in-law, Ronnie Lee, Karnie Lee, and David Tuitt; her sisters-in-law, Lorna Tobierre, Haydee Laurencin, Agnes Tuitt, Lucille Tuitt, Audrey Tuitt, Idita Sandrine Beckles, Zita Laurencin; sons-in-law, Pierre Daniel, Gershom Jones; her grandchildren, Tyler Daniel, Sydney Daniel, Ashlynn Jones, Gershom Jones Jr., Madeline Jones, Gerwin Jones, and Ashton Jones; her close friends Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Sylvan, Ms. Esther Sweeney, Ms. Ellen Kuhlman, Mr. Denston and Mrs. Audrey Bacchus, Ms. Marilyn Simon, Ms. Catherine Schons, and Mr. John L. and Mrs. Ingela Moorhead; Agnes was loved by her many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends — too numerous to mention.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Frederiksted, St.Croix  to celebrate the life of Agnes Peters on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. The viewing will begin at 9 a.m. with Mass service to follow at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery. The family requests that those in attendance wear a shade of green to honor and celebrate the life of Agnes Peters.
