Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC) proudly announces the arrival of Dr. Eva Kirsh Koeller for her residency training at our esteemed institution. Dr. Koeller, a fourth-year resident in the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University General Surgery Training Program at Rhode Island Hospital, brings her expertise and passion for medicine to SRMC.
Dr. Koeller is prepared to undertake a significant experience during her 4-week surgical rotation at the Roy L Schneider Hospital, working closely under the guidance of Dr. Frank Odlum, general surgeon and chief of surgery, along with Danielle Comissiong, general surgeon, alumna and faculty clinical instructor in surgery of Brown University School of Medicine.
Koeller’s residency opportunity has been made possible through new legislation under Title 27 V.I.C. Chapter 1 Subchapter 1, which introduced a “limited medical registration” category. This groundbreaking legislation, sponsored by Sen. Donna Frett-Gregory and approved by the 35th Legislature, with the support of Gov. Albert Bryan, enables resident physicians at accredited residency institutions to complete their postgraduate training in the Virgin Islands.
Under the supervision of licensed specialists like Dr. Odlum and Dr. Comissiong, residents like Dr. Koeller have the opportunity to hone their skills and expertise in their chosen fields of practice or specialty, contributing to the enhancement of healthcare services in the USVI.

I am delighted that we can partner with medical schools across the nation and provide the training ground for their medical residents, interns and fellows. This allows the Virgin Islands to be seen and hopefully attract medical professionals permanently to our territory’s hospitals,” said Frett-Gregory
CEO Tina M. Comissiong Esq. said that SRMC is thrilled to receive residents such as Dr. Koeller and is excited by the opportunities presented by being a learning destination for residents of Brown and other universities.
Dr. Eva Koeller said that after completing her residency next year, she hopes to pursue a minimally invasive surgery fellowship followed by a career in general surgery with a focus on advanced laparoscopy and GI surgery. Koeller has enjoyed exploring St. Thomas, especially visiting all the beautiful beaches.
