Suspect in September 2023 Drive-By Shooting Now in Custody

A St. Croix man who was a suspect in a drive-by shooting that occurred in September 2023 has been arrested and charged, the V.I. Police Department reported.

On Sept. 10, 2023, the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of shots being fired in the vicinity of Richmond Fire Station. Responding officers made contact with the male victim, who stated that as he was walking near the Richmond fire station, a vehicle approached him from behind, and a male suspect leaned out of the vehicle and began firing shots at him, according to the police report.

As the Criminal Investigation Bureau investigated the incident, it was discovered that Malyki Lockhart, 19, was operating the vehicle from which the shots were fired. On Feb. 14,
an arrest warrant for Lockhart for attempted murder in the first degree and a search warrant for Lockhart’s residence were signed and bail was set in the amount of $100,000, the police report stated.

On Feb. 22, members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Special Operations Bureau executed the search and arrest warrants. Lockhart, who was placed under arrest and booked. Lockhart was unable to post bail and was transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing set for Friday at the Superior Court, the report stated.
