“Pervading, P – E – R – V – A – D – I – N – G,” Good Hope Country Day School sixth-grader Jasem Rahhal carefully enunciated in the final moment of the school’s Spelling Bee competition, as he spelled his way to becoming the 2023 GHCDS Champion. After an intense 12 rounds, Jasem overcame a valiant effort by eighth grader Zaid Yusuf, who nailed some difficult words before encountering the word “sentinel.” Fifth grader Toby Hinkel took 3rd place.
The competition featured the top two spellers of each grade from fourth to eighth grades:
4th Grade Contestants: Colton Charles and Hannah Stewart
5th Grade Contestants: Scarlett Sayre and Toby
6th Grade Contestants: Isabelle Bohlke and Jasem
7th Grade Contestants: Grayson Barry-Stanton and Connor Shepherd
8th Grade Contestants: Chaney Smith and Zaid
Jasem will represent GHCDS in the Territorial Championship in February. Congratulations, Jasem!
