Coral Reef Academy Names Jody M. Miller to Be Incoming Director

Coral Reef Academy

Coral Reef Academy has chosen Jody M. Miller, Ph.D., as the school’s incoming director. Miller will assume this leadership role in August of this year and brings a wealth of experience.

Dr. Miller has spent more than two decades working in special education. Her first professional experience was as a physical education teacher for students with autism, intellectual differences and physical disabilities. This experience was tremendously rewarding and set the foundation for Miller to continue working with students who need additional or specialized support.

She has spent time leading non-public and residential treatment/boarding schools in both Tennessee and California, as a principal, assistant director and director. She is a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) and has also enjoyed time in applied behavior analysis (ABA) working with 2-16 year olds with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Miller holds masters (MEd) and doctorate (EdD) degrees in education from Middle Tennessee State University and Trevecca Nazarene University.

“Dr. Miller comes to us with specialized experience in implementing and directing educational programing for children with autism and other developmental delays and needs,” said Lindsy Wagner, CRA board president. “We are excited to welcome her as she continues the work of growing CRA’s program under her leadership.”

Coral Reef Academy is a unique school located in the United States Virgin Islands which opened in the fall of 2018. It is passionate about providing an exceptional educational experience for students with autism and developmental disabilities.

The roots of CRA’s program are grounded in the TEACCH method, an evidence-based academic program based on the idea that individuals with autism are visual learners, so teachers must correspondingly adapt their teaching style and intervention strategies.

This is an unprecedented approach to providing services to school-aged children with autism and developmental disabilities in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
