WAPA Updates Feb. 11-12 Lane Closure, Electrical Interruptions as Part of Container Port Undergrounding Project.

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA or Authority) informs the public of a lane closure and electrical service interruption occurring this weekend on St. Croix as part of the ongoing Container Port Underground Project. The closure will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, and end at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12. There will be a single lane road closure at the intersection of the Container Port Road and Melvin Evans Highway.

The purpose of this lane closure will be to de-energize the transmission line from Richmond to Midland, which will allow contractors to enter manholes and perform repairs associated with the Container Port Underground Project.

In order to allow contractors to safely perform work, Feeders 10A, 8B, 9B, 10B and 9A will be temporarily de-energized at the start of repairs beginning at 6 a.m., Feb. 11, for approximately 2 hours, though all feeders will not be impacted at the same time.
