A road naming ceremony was held on Thursday at Crown Bay Center on St. Thomas, honoring and commending the late Athniel C. “Addie” Ottley.
Ottley, who died on Feb. 11 at age 80, was honored for his tireless years of informing and educating the public on current and past community issues and by keeping the radio waves open in times of imminent danger to the community.
The former lieutenant governor was the voice of WSTA in Sub Base, a member of the Virgin Islands Carnival Committee, and hosted the WTJX talk show “Face to Face.” Additionally, he was active in the Rotary Club and St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce, and a devout member of Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral on Kronprindsens Gade. Ottley was appointed to the Catholic Order of St. Gregory by Pope Francis, and received Rotary’s highest honor, the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
The stretch of roadway in Sub Base, starting at the Pueblo Supermarket intersection and ending at the school lunch intersection, is now named the Athniel C. “Addie” Ottley Drive.
