Crown Bay Body Identified as Missing Man

Police have identified the body that was discovered near a business in Crown Bay in mid-December 2020 as Dexter Tronchin, who family members reported missing in late December 2020. Police say there are no signs of foul play.

On December 15, 2020, at around 3:53 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Crown Bay on a report of a decomposed body that was discovered near a business. Officers observed a deceased person on the ground, dressed in all black, that appeared to be decomposed.

On December 29, 2020, 57-year-old Dexter A. Tronchin was reported missing by family members. Tronchin, a Black male with a dark complexion with short, black hair and brown eyes, standing around 6 feet 3 inches in height, and weighing approximately 180 pounds, was last seen on November 23, 2020.

On March 1, DNA was obtained from Tronchin’s family members and from the body found in Crown Bay and sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) laboratory for comparison. The FBI’s findings were submitted on May 18, confirming that the deceased body in Crown Bay was in fact Tronchin.

Dexter A. Tronchin was reported missing in December. DNA tests confirm a body found around the same time is him. There is no sign of foul play. (VIPD photo)
