Please send submissions and questions to visourceart@gmail.com.

CORONA

Sandra C. Bradley

It started in December
And by January it was spreading.
All around the world the corona now is heading.
Coming from Latin, “corona” means a “crown”
Giving it some royalty, something regal and renowned.

When you look under the scope is that really what you see?
Perhaps we need a lesson in virus identity.
Where is the royal scepter?
Where is the throne up high?
Will it bring us to our knees
In worship by and by?

The virus might be moving faster than the speed of light.
It does not need an Uber, yet it takes off in flight
Touching down across the world, it makes a “stop and stay”
Taking up its residence and does not even pay.

Social distancing, to me, is an oxymoron
How can you be social when you’re distant from someone?
It means in our interactions to be separate and apart
Let’s do so in spatial relations, not in our mind and heart.

Fear and anxiety will come, and then will go.
Take a deep breath, refresh, and take it slow.
“Wash your hands”, is now the Golden Rule
So lather up! And sing a song, like when you were in school.

The world is ever changing, every second by and by
Be vigilant, be cautious; we also must be wise.
Heed the words of our forefathers, and the sacred books we know
They will lead us in the right paths
So that blindly we do not go.

We join in universal grief for those whose lives were lost
Every upheaval in life comes with a mighty cost.
Let’s shore up our resources, employ creativity.
We will make it through this moment.
More resilient we will be.

Each one of us, we wear a crown for we are royalty
And as we live and thrive each day, we are making history.
So, let’s remain united in heart and mind and soul.
We will dethrone this virus –
A new legacy to unfold.
