Frederiksted Library Reopens

The Athalie M. Petersen Public Library in Frederiksted reopened Monday, resuming its regular hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Planning and Natural Resources Commissioner Dawn L. Henry.

The department closed the library to perform much needed repairs and give the facility a thorough cleaning, Henry said in a news release issued Wednesday.

Earlier this year, the Office of Insular Affairs’ Capital Improvement Project announced that nearly $1 million in grant funding has been released to make infrastructure improvements at three public library facilities throughout the territory. The three facilities receiving the funding were the Petersen Library, the Florence Williams Library in Christiansted and the Elaine I. Sprauve Library in Cruz Bay, St. John.

The grants are funding infrastructure renovations and technological upgrades that will improve the library environment for lifelong learning.

More information is available by calling the Athalie Petersen Public Library at 340-772-0315 or going online at www.virginislandspubliclibraries.org.
