Jose Bess, 21, was shot to death Saturday and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau are asking the community for information that will help them find the perpetrator, according to the V.I. Police Department.
It was the sixth homicide on St. Croix this year, the 13th in the territory.
Officers were dispatched to Estate Williams Delight at about 2:20 p.m. Saturday on a report of a gunshot victim. They found Jose Bess on the ground. He was taken to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police began the investigation by canvassing the neighborhood.
"Someone who was in the area saw something, heard something or knows something," the police news release said. "It’s important that you tell what you know to any law enforcement officer you know and trust; tell the detectives who are working the case, or call Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip."
