Free Jazz Returns to Yacht Haven Grande on May 19

Free jazz concerts have returned to Yacht Haven Grande and they are bigger and better than ever. JazzHaven, launched in April, will be bringing jazz bands to Yacht Haven’s Esplanade the third Saturday of each month through November. The bands vary by month and feature talented youngsters from St. Thomas as well as internationally acclaimed musicians from Puerto Rico. JazzHaven is produced by Pedro Zorilla from Producciones TSHP. Zorilla and his team also produce Puerto Rico’s highly successful Heineken JazzFest and the monthly Ventana Jazz on the Condado.
The next concert will begin at 4:30 p.m. on May 19 with a local student performance by Kandis Gumbs of Charlotte Amalie High School, at 6 p.m. the Maisonet Quartet and at 7:30 p.m. Candido Reyes and Guiro Jazz.
"We have wanted to expand our program to St. Thomas for some time," said Zorilla. "We couldn’t ask for a better venue than Yacht Haven Grande. We look forward to bringing top talented jazz artist to St. Thomas and assisting young local musicians in finding a platform to perform."
"We invite everyone to Yacht Haven for the concerts," said Eric Toth, general manager. "You can bring a chair or a blanket, sit under the stars and enjoy live jazz music. Our restaurants, Fat Turtle and Grande Cru, are providing specials for concert-goers and lawn service, too." "We feel very fortunate to have a partner like Pedro with the experience and professionalism to make a free monthly jazz concert a reality."
JazzHaven is sponsored by Toyota, Department of Tourism, Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef, Jet Blue and The Daily News.
