Pistarckle Offers Two Educational Programs in Dance and Theater

Pistarckle Theater is offering two after school programs. The first is ‘Follow the Beat Dance Workshop!’ It will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Sept. 19 through Nov. 10. The fee is $25 per week and there is a $25 registration. There will be a recital held on Nov. 12.
Students will gain poise, grace, flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination and self-confidence through this eight-week dance program. Dance, with its concentration on self discipline, extends itself to other areas of life and gives students the upper edge in their academic and professional endeavors as well. This program is guaranteed to prepare a child for dance in theater.

The class will be taught by performing arts major Marsha Howe, who was the recent choreographer for the 2011 Leadership Camp production. Due to strong demand, Marsha will return once more to "Follow the Beat" in this workshop.
Pistarckle will also offer a ‘Youth Musical Workshop and Showcase Extravaganza.’ It will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 19 through Nov. 9. The fee is $25 per week and there is a $25 registration. There will be a recital on Nov. 12.
In this eight-week program, students will broaden their knowledge of musical theater while developing acting and singing techniques to help them with performing and auditioning in musicals. The workshop provides students with opportunities for artistic growth and self-expression. Students will select solos from various musicals that reflect their inner self to showcase their talents at the end of the class. This is perfect for any student looking to enhance their chances of a successful audition at Pistarckle Theater.

Students will learn:
· Basic vocal theory (breathing support, phrasing, projection, etc.)
· The basics of improvisation
  • How to develop acting and singing techniques to audition for musical roles
  • The history and development of musical theater
The class will be taught by local theatre veteran Donovan Carroll, who is currently working on his fourth musical with Pistarckle Theater. He will be sharing from his acting experiences here on Island and abroad.
