Cops Find Weapon on Teen in Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop ended with an arrest Friday after St. Thomas police discovered a handgun on a 17-year-old male passenger.

According to a report from the V.I. Police Department, officers spotted a vehicle making an illegal U-turn on Veterans Drive and made a stop at about 2 p.m. Friday. While speaking to the driver, officers noticed the passenger acting suspiciously.

Police asked the passenger to get out of the car and found he was carrying a fully loaded 9 mm Hi-Point firearm.

The teen was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm. The minor was released into the custody of his parents pending his court appearance.

The weapon was confiscated and will undergo forensic testing.
