Government Departments Hold National Agriculture Week 'Market Day'

National Agriculture Week will be observed throughout the nation March 14 – 20, and in recognition of the fact, Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Louis Petersen has announced that the V.I. Department of Agriculture (DOA) in partnership with the V.I. Department of Tourism will host a ‘Market Day’ at the Sanderilla Thomas Bungalow in the Rothschild Francis Square in downtown St. Thomas from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16. Featured activities will include the sale of fresh produce, culinary herbs, delicious local drinks, and honey by local farmers, fruit tree grafting demonstrations, box garden displays, as well as a presentation on beekeeping. A limited supply of vegetable and herb seedlings will be distributed to the public on a first-come first-served basis. Technical support will be extended to individuals with concerns or problems with plant pests. Plant or pest specimens may be brought in zip locked bags for diagnosis, identification and treatment recommendations.

The public is invited to join the Agriculture in celebrating a time to note the significance of agriculture in our daily lives and the importance of farmers and other professionals involved in the industry of agriculture. In addition to the educational presentations, musical entertainment will be provided by the Department of Tourism.
