DOL Provides Rapid Response Services to Hovensa Laid-Off Workers

June 27, 2007 – Labor Commissioner Albert Bryan Jr. invites all former employees of Hovensa LLC sub-contractors to a Rapid Response Workshop on Monday, June 29, at Gertrude’s Restaurant located at 114 Castle Coakley, Christiansted. Because of the number of affected employees, it will be scheduled in two sessions as follows:
· 1st Session – 9 a.m. to noon
· 2nd Session – 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The workshops are designed for mass lay-offs or plant closings, and will provide workers who have lost their jobs with vital information about various services available to them to help in the transition. Staff will be on hand to help participants file for unemployment insurance benefits and/or to register for another job, as well as to address any questions or concerns. Those attending must bring their original Social Security card and two Virgin Islands government-issued picture IDs. Also, the management of Gertrude’s Restaurant would like all attendees to park in the rear of the facility.
All affected employees are encouraged to take advantage of this free workshop.
For more information, contact Prudence Tuitt, coordinator of the Dislocated Worker’s Unit, at 773-1440.
