High School Fields Team for Rolex Regatta

March 26, 2009 – Eight students from Ivanna Eudora Kean High School and their teacher will race in heavy competition in this weekend's International Rolex Regatta.
The crew is made up of helmsman Jamal Industrious, grinders Jalanie Smith and Kymoi Doyling, mastman Mitch Hubert, trimmers Jeremy Ronan and Garson Eusebe, Xavia Carter in the pit and Kenrick Brown on foredeck.
The crew will sail Wind's Glory, a Cal 30 donated by Paul Davis to the Marine Action Group. Davis, a racer himself, will race his J/27 Mag 7 in this weekend's event.
Wind's Glory is entered in the Jib and Main class for the regatta.
The team's tactics will be called by their instructor, Stan Lorbach.
"These guys are determined," Lorbach said.
The team has only been sailing together since January but has seen some good wind in practice, achieving more than eight knots downwind with jib only in an 18-19 knot breeze, according to Lorbach.
"We are a wonderful and together team," Industrious said. "I hope we have fun and win the Rolex."
Lorback agreed and hopes that the five juniors and one sophomore will return to the crew in their upperclassman years.
