April 11, 2008 – Due to the extremely dry vegetation that currently exists, the Virgin Islands Fire Service is placing a ban on burning brush. Effective Thursday, April 10, no burning permits will be issued for St. Thomas, St. John or Water Island.
Once the ban has been lifted, those with valid burning permits that are affected by the ban can bring their permits to the V.I. Fire Service administrative offices, No. 15 Crown Bay Fill on St. Thomas or to the Cruz Bay Fire Station on St. John for credited time, according to a press release from the V.I. Fire Service.
Conditions will continue to be monitored, and the status will be adjusted accordingly. This ban will remain in effect until further notice.
