May 24, 2007 – The Educational Testing Services (ETS) has scheduled a session to finalize the standards setting activities for the Praxis II Exams. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Tuesday, May 29, at the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Croix campus (Room 203), according to a release from the Department of Education.
"A 12-member core panel will bring to fruition what will be an important achievement for public education in the U.S. Virgin Islands," said Education Human Resources Director, Alscess Lewis-Brown. "The staff of the Division of Human Resources has worked tirelessly to make this a reality and on May 29th, ETS representatives will review the score setting process with the core group who will then set the final scores for the territory. The availability of Praxis II examination will provide professionals an avenue to become highly qualified in their content area as well as setting licensure standards for school administrators."
Preliminary exercises were conducted Feb. 13 through 16, at Divi Carina Bay where a diverse group of teachers, administrators and university professors reviewed 11 subject areas toward establishing the territory standards for each exam, including: mathematics, English Language, literature and composition, general science, social studies, English to speakers of other languages, elementary education, school leadership assessment, education of exceptional students, reading across the curriculum, principles of learning and teaching K-6, and principles of learning and teaching 7-12.
