Seaborne Airlines to Make Flying and Ferrying More Affordable

May 22, 2007 — On June 1, Seaborne Airlines will launch a package deal that gives passengers a break on ferry and seaplane flights between St. John and St. Croix or Old San Juan, and on flights between West End and Road Town, Tortola and St. Croix.
"Anything to make it easier," said Seaborne President Omer ErSelcuk.
The package works differently depending on whether the passenger is traveling to or from Tortola or St. John. People traveling to or from St. John must use the downtown Charlotte Amalie ferry, ErSelcuk said. Both ferry companies that ply this route, Transportation Services and Varlack Ventures, are participating.
While passengers can book the package online or by the phone, when they are traveling from St. John, they need to purchase their ferry tickets –– however, the price of the overall package of trips originating in St. John is adjusted for this. They will receive a ferry ticket from Seaborne for the return journey eliminating the need to purchase another ticket.
Seaborne will arrange taxi transportation to and from the downtown Charlotte Amalie ferry –– however passengers purchasing this package must specifically ask for taxi transportation when booking to provide the time necessary to arrange transportation.
Passengers traveling to or from St. John will receive a discount on their airfare that accounts for the cost of the ferry ticket, ErSelcuk said. Passengers traveling from Tortola must use Smith's Ferry. They can book and pay for the entire ferry and seaplane trip online or by phone.
"When traveling from the BVI, proof of purchase, which can be either copy of e-mailed or faxed itinerary, and matching valid ID will need to be presented at check-in," ErSelcuk said. Since the Seaborne terminal is just a few steps from the downtown Charlotte Amalie Tortola terminal, they won't need a cab ride.
Seaborne has also joined forces with V.I. Sea Trans, which is a Smith's Ferry affiliate, to offer a round trip Sea2Sky package from St. Thomas to St. Croix that includes one way on the seaplane and one way on the ferry for as little as $110.
Prices vary by the day and time of departure for the St. John and Tortola packages as well as the Sea2Sky package. For more information or to book a flight, visit www.seaborneairlines.com or call 773-6442.
