Rain Expected to Continue Through Monday Afternoon

July 10, 2006 — Look for cloudy skies to continue through Monday afternoon, meteorologist Jesus Figueroa at the National Weather Service in San Juan said at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
"They'll be numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms in the morning," he said.
He said the afternoon will see isolated showers and thunderstorms.
Figueroa said a tropical wave passing through the area has combined with an upper level trough west of the territory to bring Monday morning's heavy rains on St. Thomas and St. John.
St. Croix resident Chris Goodier, who lives on the island's East End, said it sprinkled a bit, but no heavy rains like residents on St. Thomas and St. John are experiencing.
"But the wind has been really gusting. The chairs are blowing down the deck," she said.
She said she could see lightning to the north, so she knew St. Thomas and St. John were getting some bad weather.
Harold Baker, who serves as director at the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency, said he made a tour of St. Thomas as saw no flooding problems even in the places like Havensight that normally are underwater during heavy rains.
"There is quick run off," he said.
