Hebrew Congregation Launches Auction Preview Web Site

Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas has set up its own little version of eBay, an auction Web site.
Although Web users cannot bid online, the Web site shows the items that will be up for bid at the seventh annual Antiques, Art and Collectibles Auction. The event is scheduled for noon Sunday, Feb. 12 at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center.
The Web site is a work-in-progress: Some items, such as cases of wine and champagne, are not photographed, and event officials will add more items in the near future. The Web site, at www.synagogue.typepad.com , already has images of furniture, contemporary art, getaways, photography and more.
For the first time, the event will feature a silent auction. The silent auction will be open during the preview period and end at 11:45 a.m. Feb. 12. The preview period is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 12.
Event officials said in a press release that they can arrange post-auction shipping to St. John and St. Croix and to the States.
Bruce Wilson of St. Croix is again the auctioneer, and Brian Katz of the Old Stone Farmhouse will provide food, according to the Web site.
Proxy bidding is available for those who cannot attend the auction.
