American Airlines Cuts Back for the Off Season

Sept. 8, 2005 –– American Airlines nonstop flight from St. Thomas to New York's JFK International Airport will run only Sundays for the rest of September and Sundays and Mondays during October.
"It's a seasonal reduction," American spokesman Minnette Velez said Thursday from Puerto Rico.
She said the schedule changed Sept. 7.
Velez said daily flights resume Oct. 31.
On Sundays during September and Sundays and Mondays during October, flight 412 leaves St. Thomas at 1:05 p.m., arriving at JFK at 4:59 p.m.
Flight 655 leaves JFK at 8:05 a.m., arriving on St. Thomas at 11:55 a.m.
Travelers wishing to fly other than Sundays in September and Sundays and Mondays during October will have to connect through San Juan or Miami.
Velez said additional flights may be added during the Christmas holiday season, but American has not finalized its plans.
Tourism Department spokesman Steve Bornn confirmed that the seasonal changes like this one happen every year and on other flights as well.
"It's a nonstory," he said.
