Feb 28, 2005 – The territory's best cooks will have their recipes ready for tasting Sunday when the grounds of the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on St. Thomas come alive for Afternoon on the Green.
The fun begins at noon on March 6, when the annual University of the Virgin Islands friendraiser gets underway. With the theme, "Sixteen on the Green, Make it Sweet," this year s event organizers anticipate culinary concoctions to run the gamut from main dishes, breads, soups, side dishes, seafood and native drinks to scrumptious desserts.
Each year hundreds of local residents, as well as visitors, come to Afternoon on the Green to enjoy a day of outdoor food and entertainment. All of the dishes are offered for sampling at $2 a taste.
Food is the key and more cooks are needed. Simply call the UVI Institutional Advancement Office at 693-1040 and contribute your family s favorite dish.
In addition to hundreds of home-cooked specialties, last year's event featured delicious dishes donated by Arian's Restaurant, Craig and Sally's and We Grow Food.
Afternoon on the Green has also come to mean great entertainment, and this year is no exception, when The Starlites take the stage. Also this year, for the first time, Afternoon on the Green will feature special attractions by Kids Entertainment Company. As always, children will be able to enjoy face painting, coloring contests and games on the green.
UVI faculty and staff will be on hand with informative displays from each of UVI's academic divisions. And UVI's recruitment officers will accept admissions applications and discuss student opportunities at UVI.
