Oct. 3, 2004 – St. Thomas-St. John District public high school students will reeive mandatory diagnostic testing in reading and mathematics during the week of Oct. 4. But according to a release from Education Department, the tests arrived late, so the schedule has been changed slightly.
"In order to administer these tests, the Charlotte Amalie and Ivanna Eudora Kean Senior high schools will operate on a modified scheduled during the testing period," William I. Frett, district superintendent of schools, said.
The following schedule is provided:
Wednesday, Oct. 6
8-10 a.m. – 9th grade testing.
8-10 a.m. – 10th grade testing.
11 a.m. – Resumption of regular class schedule for all students.
Thursday, Oct. 7
8-10 a.m. – 11th grade testing.
8-10 a.m. – 12th grade testing.
11 a.m. – Resumption of regular class schedule for all students.
Advising parents, guardians and the general public of the testing, Frett said, "Parents need not be concerned about preparing their children to take the tests, as diagnostic testing is a mechanism used to determine the individual child's strengths and weaknesses in the tested areas."
"However, these tests are mandatory for all students," Frett said. "Parents are asked to ensure that their children receive adequate sleep the night before the test and receive a hearty breakfast before attending the tests."
