CANDIDATE CHRISTIAN IS A VOTER'S HOPE

Dear Source,
In response to the letter from Dr. Cora Christian, which I read with great interest and respect, I would like to hear her views/ideas on solving the insurance crisis for homeowners and vacation villa owners. I suspect the entire crisis could be solved simply by the removal of [Lt. Gov. G.] "Luz" James, who sounds like a broken record when it comes to the cost of insurance. Despite numerous expert opinions, he mindlessly persists in his mantra of no price increases. Well, he is keeping his promise to keep insurance costs down, but when he is finished there will be no insurance for anyone and our cost will be truly a bargain, it will cost nothing because there will be no insurance to be had. Under that scenario, we will have to sell our villa, which is rented almost 90 percent of the year, because our mortgage company requires us to have insurance or lose the financing. I suspect that there will not be a long line of buyers for our home because they will not be able to get financing because they cannot get insurance … and so it will go until the island that I love so much is in such deep financial trouble that there is no hope.
There was also a letter from visitors who were robbed during their recent vacation; my heart sank for them. I too had guests robbed while staying at my home and, while I can replace the possessions that I lost, there is no way to replace the good will of my visitors who will go home with horror stories about St. Croix.
There is so much at stake here for all of us, I am desperately looking for someone to get the Legislature off their well-paid butts and do something to help us before it is too late.
Dr. Christian, I look forward to hearing your views and will do all I can to support your candidacy so you can help not only the people who live in St. Croix, but those of us who live there part of the year and try to attract as many visitors to our island as possible with our rental property. There are many of us who live off island and are desperate for some good news from the upcoming elections; we want and need a real leader who is willing to make the tough choices for the good of us all, not just their personal bank account.
