FREDERIKSTED DUMPSTER SITE TO CLOSE

July 23, 2001 — The Public Works Department will close the Lagoon Street trash site in Frederiksted at the end of the month.
According to Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood, Paradise Waste Systems is currently handling regular house-to-house garbage collection in the surrounding neighborhoods. Because of that, he said the roll-on, roll-off bins are a duplication of services already being provided by the department.
Persons found throwing garbage in the Lagoon Street area after July 31 will be cited for littering, Callwood said. He said the department is relying on residents in the area to be its "eyes and ears" to ensure that the former dump site remains "neat and clean."
