A young man shot and killed near the Anna's Retreat Community Center early Sunday morning has been identified as Perry Brathwaite of Anna's Retreat.
A 45-year-old man shot and killed on the Red Hook ferry dock at midday Sunday has been identified as Alfredo Barrott. Police gave no address for Barrott.
A release from Police Chief Jose Garcia on Monday morning said Brathwaite was shot while a birthday party was going on at the community center. He was found face down on the ground outside the center. Garcia said Brathwaite was 19 or 20 years old.
The homicide that occurred on the Red Hook dock started with a fight between Barrott and another man, Garcia said. When a uniformed police officer attempted to break up the fight, Barrott reportedly turned the gun on the officer, who ordered Barrott to drop the gun. Instead of complying, Barrott shot at the officer, who then shot back, according to Garcia.
Barrott collapsed into the tourist booth on the heavily trafficked dock. A nurse on the scene rendered emergency medical treatment until the ambulance arrived, Garcia's release said. Barrott was pronounced dead at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital.
