Robles, Campbell-Klein Take Titles in Labor Day 5K Road Race

Juan Robles and Briget Campbell-Klein were the first place male and female overall finishers in The 32nd Labor Day 5K Road Race, the first race of the season on St. Croix. On a typically hot and humid day on the North shore of the island, a group of over 40 runners and walkers toed the starting line for the out-and-back course, which runs through The Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve and Columbus Landing of The National Park Service.
Robles and top high school distance runner Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club distanced themselves from the pack early on the downhill stretch, and they were as one for nearly two miles until the more experienced Robles pulled away to win the race in 16 minutes and 36 seconds; Smith had a strong second place finish in 17:30; Billy Bohlke, a perineal winner of the event, finished third in 19:14 as he overtook Dedrick Luikens, who was fourth In 19:16; Randall Neilsen was fifth in 20:11.
Bridget Neilsen continued to run strong as she was the top overall female finisher and fifth in the race overall in 19:44; Mikaela Smith of the St. Croix Track Club ran the distance in race for the first time and finished second in 20:25; Rachel Conoff, her club teammate and a Good Hope-Country Day School runner, was third in 21:37; Jennifer Storm was fourth in 23:22; Regina Stevens was fifth in 26:52.
