Police on St. Croix are seeking the community’s assistance in solving several recent cases, including the hit and run accident that caused the death of 79-year-old Theodore Phillip.
According to the V.I. Police Department, Phillip was killed in an accident that happened about 7:15 p.m. Jan. 25 on the North Shore Road in the area between the JFK housing community and the Golden Rock Shopping Center.
Police said several people were in the area when two vehicles struck the victim as he was attempting to cross the street. According to officers, Phillip was crossing the street from JFK to the Golden Rock Shopping Center when he was struck by a trailer being pulled by another vehicle and fell to the ground. Another vehicle, possibly a Lexus SUV, passed the same area and ran over the victim while he was lying on the road.
Phillip was taken to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital when he later died.
Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area or may have been involved in the accident to contact detectives at 1-340-712-6030 or 1-340-712-6077. Witnesses can also report by calling the 911 emergency dispatch center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Police also are seeking information on other pending cases of fatal vehicle accidents, including the Jan. 25 accident that killed 54-year-old Socorro Parrilla, who was struck by a vehicle on the Constitution Hill Road.
The department reminded readers that even cases that happened in years past are still under investigation.
