UVI President David Hall to Host Dean’s List Receptions on Feb. 26 (STX) and March 5 (STT) UVI President David Hall is pleased to announce the resumption of the in-person Dean’s List Reception and Award Ceremony to recognize our high-achieving students who made the Dean’s List. The university was unable to host in-person ceremonies during the COVID period and will be recognizing current students who made the Dean’s List from fall 2019 through fall 2022. The events will be hosted on both campuses and begin with a 2 p.m. reception followed by a 3 p.m. program.
At UVI, superior student achievement is recognized in many ways during each academic year. The Dean’s List recognizes full-time undergraduate students (carrying 12 or more degree credits) who have earned a grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the semester, with no grade lower than C and not taking any remedial courses. These last few years have been especially challenging with the cascading disruptions and effects of the pandemic. Yet, these students continued to excel and are worthy of our celebration and recognition.
Please come out and celebrate our students’ success. Events will be hosted as follows beginning at 2 p.m. on each campus:
St. Croix – Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Great Hall, Albert A. Sheen Campus
St. Thomas – Sunday, March 5, at the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center, Orville E. Kean Campus

Afternoon on the Green Is Back and Seeking Talented Cooks to Donate Their Best Dishes The University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) annual fundraising event, Afternoon on the Green, is back on-site at the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on St. Thomas and is inviting the island’s talented cooks to donate their best dishes for a great cause. The event, which benefits the Edward Thomas Volunteer Scholarship Fund, has been a community favorite for more than 30 years combining great food, live entertainment and family fun to support scholarships for deserving students. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, March 19, from noon to 5 p.m. with the theme “A Burst of Culture, Fun & Cuisine at Afternoon on the Green 2023.”
Restaurants, as well as caterers, professional chefs and home cooks, are all invited to donate their specialty dishes, desserts or native drinks that attendees can purchase and vote on. Prizes will be awarded to the overall top vote-getter as well as the top three in each category: Main Dishes, Seafood, Vegetarian Dishes, Soups, Side Dishes, Bread, Pastries/Sweets and Native Drinks.

Save the Date – UVI to Celebrate its 59th Commencement Ceremonies on May 11 and 12
The University of the Virgin Islands will celebrate its 59th commencement ceremonies on Thursday, May 11, on the grounds of the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and Friday, May 12, in the Elridge W. Blake Sports and Fitness Center on the Orville E. Kean Campus on St. Thomas. The ceremonies will begin at 1 p.m. on both dates.
Graduating seniors are reminded of the deadlines to apply for graduation and to contact the bookstores on both campuses for measuring for their caps and gown. Faculty members are reminded that they will need to be measured for their regalia through the bookstore.
Please be reminded that the earlier you submit your application and visit the bookstores will prevent you from paying late fees for the services afforded to seniors and faculty members.

Registration is now Open for Ocean Explorers Summer Programs Registration for the Ocean Explorers Summer Programs is now open until May 1. Students interested in learning about marine science and STEM are encouraged to apply.
Applicants in grades 3-6 are eligible for the Junior Ocean Explorers Summer Program, which operates presently only on St. Thomas. In this program, applicants will learn the basics of swimming, snorkeling, water safety and marine animal identification.
Applicants in grades 7-12 are eligible for the Youth Ocean Explorers Summer Program, which operates on both St. Thomas and St. Croix. In this program, applicants will learn snorkeling, scuba diving, marine plant and animal identification, career development and ecology/oceanography.
