Suspect Charged with Fleeing, Firing at Police, Marshals

A man who police believe led officers and U.S. Marshal’s on a car and foot chase and opened fire on the officers was arrested early Sunday morning in the east end of St. Thomas.

According to the V.I. Police Department, VIPD officers and two U.S. Marshals attempted to stop a heavily tinted red Jeep Wrangler on Raphune Hill at about 1:44 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit that encompassed the east end of the island, from Raphune Hill to Brookman Road, through the Bovoni and Bolongo area and ultimately came to a stop in the Oswald Harris Court Housing Community.

While exiting the vehicle, the suspects opened fire on the officers and fled the area. Upon pursuit, officers found Jamieson Jeffers, 28, whose last known address is Oswald Harris Court Community, Bldg. 2 St. Thomas, lying in a gut attempting to hide from officers, behind Bldg. 9 of the housing community.

Jeffers was subsequently arrested and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.

Jeffers is charged with third-degree assault, possession of stolen property, possession of ammunition, reckless endangerment, delaying/obstructing, unauthorized use of a vehicle and illegal transfer of a license plate.
