UVI Board of Trustees Approves New Strategic Plan In the regular session of its quarterly meeting on Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Administration and Conference Center Building on the St. Thomas Campus, the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) approved a new five-year strategic plan for the university, titled โGreatness Through Innovation.โ
The board unanimously approved the strategic plan. It has six focus areas: Innovation and Distinction; Leadership and Excellence in Academics, Research and Public Service; Student Access, Recruitment and Success; Measurement, Analysis, Knowledge Management and Results; Operational Efficiencies and Focus; and Valuing People, Relationships and Culture.
UVI President David Hall described the process for developing this new Strategic Plan, which includes community input through town hall meetings and consultation with experts in creative planning and innovative thinking.

UVI to be Closed on November 1 for Liberty Day The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed in commemoration of Liberty Day on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018.
Classes and administrative offices will reopen on Friday, Nov. 2 at their normal scheduled hours.
UVIโs Pre-Holiday Concert to be held on November 9 at Prior Jollek Hall A pre-holiday concert will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, at Prior Jollek Hall at Antilles School.
The concert will feature performances by the UVI Concert Band, Steel Band Ensemble, the Concert Choir and the Jazz Ensemble.
Tickets can be purchased from the following outlets: UVI Bookstore, Medicine Shoppe in Havensight, Frenchtown Deli, Chelsea Drugstore in Red Hook and Antilles School Administration Office.
Food and drinks will be provided by Chef Ashley. Admissions: $5 for students with ID and $20 for adults.

UVIโs Voices of Inspiration presents โA Musical Journey Through Timeโ on November 3 Join the UVI family for a compelling production through song by one of the Virgin Islandsโ premier choirs. UVIโs Voices of Inspiration Choir will bring to the stage โA Musical Journey Through Timeโ at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at Island Center for the Performing Arts on St. Croix.
The group is composed of students, alumni and staff from the University of the Virgin Islands. The non-denominational choir sings a variety of music genres such as jazz, blues, negro spirituals, contemporary gospel, classical and Caribbean, including reggae and calypso.
The Voices of Inspiration isnโt a typical choir, its performances are enhanced with creative animation, visual graphics and dance.
The concert is free; however, donations will be accepted.

UVI-CELL Partners with Legal Services of the Virgin Islands to Present Estate Planning Workshop Hurricanes Irma and Maria taught Virgin Islanders how important it is to have estate planning documents in order before a disaster strikes. To help the community in the preparation process, the UVI-CELL Center has partnered with Legal Services of the Virgin Islands Inc. to host a seminar on estate planning.
The โSo You Want to Avoid Probateโ seminar will be held from 1 โ 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Research and Extension Center (REC-133), located on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. A similar workshop was held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 at the UVI-CELL Center on St. Thomas.
Participants will learn the basics of wills, trusts, the power of attorneys and guardianships, and how creating these legal documents now may help avoid probate in the future. The power of hurricanes and tsunamis will also be discussed during VITEMAโs All Hazards Preparedness presentation. Raffle prizes and certificates will be provided.
Presenters will include attorney Ronald Belfon of Legal Services of the Virgin Islands Inc., attorney Archie Jennings of the Disabilities Rights Center and Irvin Mason from VITEMA.
