Vikings Quiet the Storm, Sweep Hurricanes for 2012 AA Crown

Vikings celebrate 2012 AA Baseball championship. The Vikings won the 2012 Raphael Jackson AA Baseball championship on Wednesday at the D.C. Canegata ballpark by beating the 40 Plus Hurricanes, 9-3, to wrap up a 3-0 sweep of the championship series.

The 2012 champs, trailing 4-1 in the eighth inning on Saturday, rallied for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take game one, 6-4.

The Vikings then turned things over to ace Kenny Jackson on Sunday, who pitched them to a 9-4 victory and a 2-0 series lead.

On Wednesday the Vikings used a plethora of hurlers to clinch the series, but the Hurricanes did not go down without a fight.

Timothy Seed started on the mound for the champs and he held the hurricanes scoreless for the first three innings. His offense gave good support by getting two runs in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Mark Knight and Mark Franklin, then run another in the third on another RBI single by Knight to take a 3-0 lead after three innings.

Sneed got into a bit of trouble in the top of the fourth when he allowed the Canes to load the bases ahead of Enrique Soto. After pulling a pitch just foul to deep left, Soto ripped a bases-clearing double off the right field fence to knot the game at three.

That would be all the scoring for the geriatric posse, however, while the Vikings went on to add three runs in the fifth, two in the seventh and wrapped up their 2012 championship in the bottom of the eighth with one run on an RBI single by Arthur Canaii for the 9-3 victory.

Sneed got the win on the hill for the Vikings, while Gilberto Belardo got the loss.

Top batters for the Vikings were Justino Navarro (4 for 5), Canaii (3 for 4 with two RBIs), Knight (2 for 5 with two RBIs) and Jahmoy Williams (2 for 4 with two RBIs). For the Hurricanes Enrique Soto was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Kenneth Milligan was 2 for 4, and Raymond Cintron was 2 for 5.
