VING Training at Cramer Park for Proficiency Evaluation

A V.I. National Guard unit will participate in an emergency response exercise at St. Croix’s Cramer Park next week. The 23rd Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team will undergo a proficiency evaluation. The training exercise will run 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 and the public should not be alarmed if they see blue response vehicles in the area, VING officials said in a statement.

Civil Support Teams are strategically placed across the United States. The specialized Guard unit participates in proficiency exercises as a certification requirement. The VING’s 23rd Civil Support Team is a 22-person unit comprised of Army and Air National Guard Soldiers and Airmen. The unit is a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense response team in support of state and local authorities in the event of an incident involving weapons of mass destruction.

VING is asking motorists to observe safety and road rules when they encounter a grouping of military vehicles on the roadways of St. Croix. The convoy of large or wide vehicles may obstruct visibility if you attempt to pass.

"Training is required to maintain and improve our proficiency as we aim to serve and protect our community," VING officials said in a statement, apologizing for any inconvenience to residents.
