A man was shot and robbed Sunday evening in downtown Frederiksted, according to a statement issued Monday by police.
At 9:55 p.m. the 911 dispatch center received a call reporting shots being fired and a man down on Queen Street near the Frederiksted fire station. When the officers arrived on the scene they observed a man 38 years old bleeding as a result of being shot.
The victim is a resident of the Barren Spot area, but police had not released his name as of this writing. Preliminary investigation indicates that he had been shot multiple times about the body and was robbed of a 14-karat gold chain.
According to the victim, he and two other individuals were entering their vehicle, which was parked on Queen Street. A man approached them and ordered them to freeze, then robbed one of the victims of his chain and began to fire shots, which struck one of the three men. The shooter then fled from the area on foot
The victim was transported the Juan F. Luis Hospital by ambulance where he remains in stable condition. The other two individuals were not injured.
The suspect was described as being a black male who was wearing all black clothing.
