Winner of Scotiabank 'Park Like a Rock Star' Contest Announced

Dec. 22, 2007 – Chantal Cruz will have her own private downtown parking place – free – for the next year courtesy of Scotiabank. Cruz was the winner of the "Park Like a Rock Star" contest conducted in November at the bank's Waterfront office. Cruz's name was picked from thousands of entries for the parking spot at the St. Thomas Federal Credit Union parking lot adjoining the Fort Christian Lot. Cruz will park free and easy from Dec. 21, 2007, through Dec. 20, 2008, according to a release from Scotiabank.
The promotion was launched in November when Scotiabank purchased the entire Fort Christian Parking Lot and provided free parking for the day to St. Thomas residents.
"Scotiabank rocks," said the enthusiastic Cruz. "Not having to pay $6 a day will save me almost a thousand dollars over this next year."
"We've made a lot of new friends and opened many new free checking accounts as people came in to enter," said Scotiabank Waterfront branch manager, Steve Gardner. "Our rock star, red carpet treatment was appreciated by downtown businesses and workers who need to bank conveniently over breaks or lunch hours."
