Couples Can Say 'I Do' Again Valentine's Day on St. John

Feb. 4, 2008 — With love in the air on Valentine's Day, couples are invited to renew their vows at the 6th annual Celebration of Love, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at Trunk Bay, St. John.
There is no charge to participate.
"Couples should come to give themselves and each other an opportunity to honor their relationship," said Anne Marie Porter, a non-denominational wedding officiant who conducts the renewal ceremony.
Michael Banzhaf will play the flute as the couples arrive. Every woman will receive a rose, and the couples get marriage vow-renewal certificates.
A complimentary taxi will meet the ferry that leaves Red Hook for Cruz Bay at 4 p.m. The driver will be "obvious" to anyone getting off the boat, Porter said. She wasn't sure how the driver would identify himself, but said the couples would easily be able to identify him.
The event got its start in 2003 when Porter and Cathy Dove organized the first vow-renewal ceremony. A total of 70 couples turned out, the same number as participated in 2007.
Over the past five years, 318 couples married a total of 7,282 years renewed their vows at the ceremony.
