Brief: Hospital Will Get Its License

July 21, 2006 – As a result of a lengthy meeting Friday afternoon, the Schneider Regional Medical Center's operating license will be renewed for one year, retroactive to June 30.
Gov. Charles W. Turnbull made the announcement following a three-and-a- half hour meeting with Health Commissioner Darlene Carty and Schneider Regional Medical Center CEO Rodney Miller, along with Lt. Gov. Vargrave Richards and other hospital and health department officials.
Turnbull's release provided no details of the process, and it was not possible Friday afternoon to get comment from others involved in the meeting.
Turnbull announced Thursday afternoon that he would meet with the entities, who have exchanged a lively and contentious series of letters in the recent past.
Carty had been holding up Medicare and Medicaid payments to SRMC until the facility files an annual report with the Health Department in order to renew its license, which expired June 30.(See "Health Commissioner and Hospital CEO at Odds Over License Procedure")
