The nuclear powered USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier is in the Charlotte Amalie harbor until Tuesday morning.
It is commanded by Capt. Denby Starling.
The carrier, which measures 1,115 feet with four and a half acres of flight deck, can hold up to 100 aircraft, according to the Eisenhower's informational booklet. It weighs 95,000 tons.
The ship can accommodate 6,287 personnel.
Two nuclear reactors on board can provide energy for 18 years without refueling and can propel the Eisenhower at a speed in excess of 30 knots.
The ship's two anchors weigh 60,000 pounds each. With the 1,082 feet of chain attached, the weight soars to 735,000 pounds, or 367.8 tons. Each chain link weighs 365 pounds.
Within the massive vessel are an armory, chapel, hospital, TV station, library, weather bureau, carpentry shop, bakery, fire station, laundry and electrical generating plant.
The USS Eisenhower was commissioned in October 1977.
